Who we are
“DIWA” is a Filipino term that means soul, thought or sense of meaning or purpose. This local term also refers to the energy of mind or feeling, and spirit: “lakas ng isip” or “kaluluwa.” Some Filipinos use this word to point out man’s moral, religious, or emotional nature while some relate it to man’s courage and vigor. At times, they also use it to refer to the cause of inspiration and energy: “diwa” or “buhay.”
It is with deep understanding and association to these reference terms that the “Diwa ng Magdalo” was brought to life. “Diwa ng Magdalo” connotes for consciousness and embodies the principles of a catalyst that aims to advance national consciousness and patriotism to our society. Drawing its life from the ideals of officers and men of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who continuously stand with integrity to reform the corrupt system of the government, the DIWA NG MAGDALO FOUNDATION INCORPORATED (DMFI) was founded by members of the Bagong Katipuneros, who were later on called the MAGDALO Group, to advance their advocacy in promoting good governance and social justice towards the betterment of our country. It portrays a vital role to concretize the group’s vision of having a peaceful, progressive and prosperous country with a united Filipino citizenry.
They place their convictions through time and concerted effort that the foundation would one day be a self-sustaining, nationally relevant service organization with a clear program of action for targeted beneficiaries. With this, the DMFI was formally registered at the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) with the No. 201111303 on June 29, 2011, as a non-stock, not for profit, non-governmental organization. As a tool in influencing societal change, the DMFI introduced their Scholarship Program for deserving college students from the University of the Philippines (UP) who are taking up courses that are geared towards public service professions. The first program was launched during the 2011-2012 Academic Year with UP students from Diliman and Manila campuses as beneficiaries.
At this point, DMFI continuously strive to expand its scope in providing sustainable livelihood programs and other appropriate programs for the benefit of the less fortunate members of the society including the families of retired and active members of the uniformed services and law enforcement agencies of the country (AFP, PNP, BJMP, BFP, PCG, and PDEA) as well as the dependents of other government employees who are at the forefront of our government services that unabatingly provide for the welfare of all Filipinos even though they themselves struggle to provide for their own families.
